Promoting My MLM Business
Without Breaking The Rules

by André Vatke

Here's a great topic from the Leaders Club MasterMind forum going back to 11/19/2003...

James asked the question: My primary company has strict rules about EVER promoting another business opportunity to anyone who is already with our company (even if I don't know they are with the company) and very severe punishment if found guilty of such an offense.

How can I effectively promote resources to my team without risking being punished, paying fines or worse, being terminated permanently from my primary program?

My response: I understand rules about not contacting those people in the downline that are not personally sponsored. Leaders Club has that rule too and it's a good because it prevents people from raiding downlines. The last thing you want to worry about is your upline calling or e-mailing the people you brought into the business with another offer.

When you look at things rationally, the people you recruit are your own contacts. You have the right to market anything you want -- even if it's counter productive to your business. You spent the time and effort to "sell them", not the company. Also, people responding to public ads are fair game - again because you spent your own time and money making the "sale."

Companies that have such restrictive rules really puzzle me. It's not like you have access to inside information. (AKA - you signed a contract allowing this.) If you did, then this policy would make sense.

I have my doubts that the enforcement of the rules (like canceling your position) would stand if challenged in court. But since going to court would be costly most people wouldn't actually do it.

To answer your question:

You're in a delicate position. A kind of "catch 22."

One way around their rule (legally speaking) is to market one program in your name and the other in the name of your spouse. We've seen this on more than one occasion. But don't take my word on this saving your skin. But it might let you slip under the radar.

The other thing you want to keep in mind is the "spirit" of their rule. Be sensitive to how your marketing may be perceived. Don't come to your downline with an offer, but rather come them as a consultant. Speak with every person one-on-one. Tell them how Leaders Club has helped you. Share your story as it is the most powerful selling tool you have.

Remember that you want to help them make their business more successful, to help them make progress.

Either way, we have to work with what we are given even if the rules aren't fair.
